FAI Technical Department

The Technical Department oversees the development of football in Ireland, from increasing participation levels to training coaches and developing players.
Making football accessible to anyone and everyone who wishes to play the game is a core aim of the Football Association of Ireland and is a fundamental objective of the 19 programmes operated by the association's Technical Department.
Under the guidance of the Technical Development Plan, the department aims to improve the standard of Irish football through working with young players and coaches. This work is carried out by the four dedicated teams within the Technical Department: Grassroots Unit, Player Development Unit, Women's Football Unit, Education Unit.

The development of our emerging talent is a major priority. Last year over 220 international matches were played by males and females at all levels from U15 to Senior International. The Player Development Unit, which operates under the FAI's Emerging Talent programme, develops talent to play for these teams.
These programmes are delivered by a one hundred strong team led by the Head of Grassroots Football, Liam McGroarty composed of unit managers and a countrywide network of National Programme Co-ordinators and Development Officers.
